On the afternoon of May 19, Chongqing held a symposium on strengthening basic research. Municipal Party Committee Secretary Yuan Jiajun presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. After listening carefully to everyone's speeches, Yuan Jiajun made a speech. He pointed out that since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Municipal Party Committee has thoroughly implemented the major decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee on strengthening basic research, deeply implemented the strategy of putting science and technology innovation and talents first in strengthening the city, integrated the "416" scientific and technological innovation layout and the "33618" modern manufacturing cluster system, and actively built an important carrier for source innovation. Cutting-edge results have continued to emerge, basic research resource elements have accelerated, and systems and mechanisms have been iteratively improved. The city's basic research has made positive progress, which has injected strong impetus into accelerating the improvement of the overall effectiveness of the municipal innovation system.

Before the meeting, Yuan Jiajun went to the Science Center and Quantum Materials and Devices Research Center of Chongqing University for investigation, listened to reports on the basic research results of the city and Chongqing University, inspected scientific research facilities and equipment, talked with front-line scientific researchers, learned about key areas, major scientific and technological infrastructure construction and talent training, and put forward requirements for relevant work.
