The 6th Asia-Oceania Neuropathology Congress (AOCN) and the 23rd National Neuropathology Film Reading Symposium opened in Chongqing

Release time:2025/11/14

On November 13, 2025, the 6th Asia-Oceania Neuropathology Congress (AOCN) and the 23rd National Neuropathology Film Reading Symposium opened at the Chongqing Shancheng International Conference Center. As one of the special events of the Chongqing International Talent Exchange Conference, with the theme of "Crossing the Ocean, Connecting Wisdom: Drawing a New Blueprint for Neuropathology", the conference aims to build an open, cutting-edge, and pragmatic international exchange platform, gather academic innovation, and promote the development and progress of the field of neuropathology.

Under the guidance of the Asia-Oceania Neuropathology Society, this conference is hosted by Jinfeng Laboratory, hosted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University and Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, and co-organized by the Pathology Department of Wu Jieping Medical Foundation, the Brain Neuropathology Group of the Pathology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and the Neuropathology Group of the Neurology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. The conference attracted more than 300 top scholars, clinical experts and scientific researchers from 16 countries and regions. Professor Bian Xiuwu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chairman of the conference, delivered a welcome speech online. Wang Songguang, member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Chongqing High-tech Zone, Western Science City, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

Academician Bian Xiuwu said in his speech that the Asia-Oceania Neuropathology Conference has always been an important platform to promote disciplinary progress and cross-border collaboration. He hopes to use the conference as an opportunity to further build a bridge for ideological collision and achievement sharing, help Chongqing gather global high-end intellectual resources, and inject professional impetus into the innovative development of the local biomedical industry. Deputy Director Wang Songguang introduced in his speech that the Western (Chongqing) Science City, as the city's core scientific and technological innovation area, is actively integrating into the "416" scientific and technological innovation layout and promoting the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation. He hopes that the high-energy platform represented by Jinfeng Laboratory can use this conference to deepen international scientific research cooperation in the field of neuropathology, jointly tackle core technical problems in the field of neuropathology, and promote high-quality development of the industry.

In the keynote speech session, a number of domestic and foreign authoritative experts shared their research results. Herbert Budka, former president of the International Society of Neuropathology and honorary professor of the Department of Neuropathology and Neurochemistry at the University of Vienna, Austria, Gabor G. Kovacs, professor of neuropathology and neurology at the University of Toronto, Canada, and Markus Glatzel, professor of neuropathology at the School of Medicine at the University of Hamburg, Germany, deeply analyzed new directions in neurodegenerative diseases and brain bank-related research.; Pieter Wesseling, a professor at the University Medical Center of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, gave an authoritative interpretation of the latest update on WHO’s neurological tumors ; Well-known scholars such as Professor Ichizo Nishino, Director of the Department of Neuromuscular Research at the National Center for Neurological and Psychiatric Medicine, and Professor Renpei Sengoku, Director of the Neurology Department of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Jikei University of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan, respectively shared breakthrough research findings and unique insights on topics such as muscle pathology and Lewy body-related pathology. In addition, participating experts will also conduct in-depth exchanges in the fields of neuro-oncology, infection and immunity, cerebrovascular disease and epilepsy.

The conference will last until the 16th. During the period, there will be a number of academic activities such as special seminars, poster exhibitions, and a national neuropathology film reading symposium. Representatives attending the conference will jointly discuss the future of neuropathology, and lead a New Chapter in Disciplinary Development.

This conference presents four major characteristics: First, the integration of international vision and China’s contribution. The conference invited authoritative experts from many countries and regions to share cutting-edge research progress around the world. Chinese scholars also presented original research results at the conference, providing a "Chinese solution" for global neuropathology research. Second, basic research and clinical practice are closely linked. The conference takes into account both scientific exploration and clinical application. The specially set up film reading session will focus on nervous system tumors and non-neoplastic lesions, and promote the transformation of scientific research results into precise clinical diagnosis and treatment. The third is to pay equal attention to academic leadership and talent cultivation. The conference not only focuses on cutting-edge exchanges, but also focuses on the cultivation of young scholars, stimulating young academic enthusiasm through high-level reports and interactions, and reserving talents for subject development. Fourth, smart exchanges and cooperation expansion are promoted simultaneously. The conference builds an efficient docking platform for medical institutions, scientific research teams and scholars, broadens the cooperation network, builds regional consensus, and jointly responds to disciplinary challenges.

As a key field of brain science and disease research, the development of neuropathology is of great significance to understanding the mechanisms of neurological diseases and improving the level of clinical diagnosis and treatment. The holding of the conference not only helps to build a broader academic consensus, but also provides an important opportunity to respond to global neurological disease challenges and explore precise diagnosis and treatment paths. Standing at a new starting point, the conference will promote Asia-Oceania neuropathology to take solid steps in disciplinary innovation, talent training and international collaboration, and inject new wisdom and strength into building a human health community.
