Lecture review|academician rao zihe: pathogen research
on june 29, 2024 (saturday), rao zihe, an academician of the chinese academy of sciences and a foreign academician of the american academy of arts and sciences, was invited to give an academic report entitled "pathogen structure" at jinfeng laboratory. bian xiuwu, academician of the chinese academy of sciences and director of the laboratory, li tianan, secretary of the party committee of the laboratory, tang anming, deputy director of the laboratory, as well as representatives of scientific research team members and technical platform personnel, a total of more than 100 people participated. the lecture was hosted by xu hui, deputy director of the laboratory.
in this lecture, academician rao zihe introduced the latest results and future prospects of pathogen research, analyzed the structure of pathogens and the microscopic mechanisms of disease occurrence and development, and shared and refined his understanding and insights on scientific research education.
the struggle of structural biology
academician rao zihe presented in detail his team’s work on pathogen structure analysis. academician rao zihe and team members have successively carried out structural analysis research on hiv, sars, sars-cov-2 and other viruses, including the three-dimensional structure analysis of key proteins of the new coronavirus. these findings provide an important basis for the precise development of vaccines and drugs.
uncovering the interaction mechanism between pathogens and diseases
through vivid case studies, rao zihe and academician li explained the interactions between pathogens and host cells and how these interactions cause disease. academician rao's research has promoted research on the deep mechanisms of the interaction between pathogens and diseases.
integrated innovation of technology
at the end of the lecture, academician rao zihe shared the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in pathogen research, especially how the application of modern scientific and technological means such as artificial intelligence and bioinformatics can promote the analysis of pathogen structures, and looked forward to the future of pathogen research. trend. in addition, the scientific researchers present were encouraged to be brave enough to explore the unknown, persist in interdisciplinary learning and cooperation, and contribute to building a human health community.
after the lecture, the scientific researchers present actively asked questions and had exchanges and discussions with academician rao zihe.
academician rao zihe’s sharing deepened our understanding of the interaction mechanism between pathogens and diseases, and brought new inspiration to the scientific research innovation of jinfeng laboratory. its scientific research education experience and scientific spirit will inspire us to persevere and integrate innovation on the road of scientific research and exploration.
introduction to the keynote speakers
rao zihe, professor of tsinghua university, academician of the chinese academy of sciences, foreign academician of the american academy of arts and sciences, currently a member of the presidium of the chinese academy of sciences, director of the advisory committee of the chinese academy of sciences, honorary chairman of the chinese biophysical society, and founding chairman of the life sciences association of the chinese association for science and technology; once he serves as a member of the standing committee of the national committee of the chinese people's political consultative conference, president of nankai university, director of the institute of biophysics, chinese academy of sciences, and chairman of the international union of biophysics (iupab).
academician rao’s team has long been engaged in the study of the three-dimensional structure of emerging and re-emerging infectious disease pathogens and the research of innovative drugs. influenza viruses, sars and new coronaviruses, hiv, hepatitis a virus, hand, foot and mouth virus, herpes virus, african pig he has made systematic and innovative contributions to the research on the mechanisms of important pathogens such as pestivirus and mycobacterium tuberculosis. he has published more than 420 peer-reviewed papers in international scientific journals, including cell, nature, science published 27 research papers in the main journals of the three major scientific magazines, with more than 35,000 citations, h-index 89, i10-index 306, and obtained 38 patent authorizations. the research results of academician rao's team have been selected into the "top ten progress of chinese science" three times.
